  • For the past several months we’ve been working with a fantastic consultant to help mature and drive our editorial policies and practices forward. While we’re a blog company, because so much of our audience is non-bloggy, we end up having to look and operate like a mid-sized mainstream media organization (hopefully without all the red tape). Ideally we’d want someone who knows and loves blogs but has serious experience in the mainstream media world. Someone who knows the red tape but just wishes they could cut through it all to just Get Stuff Done. Again, we’re looking for someone to jam out with their talents. And, again, this is ideally a Toronto-based position, though we can move folk. More than anything, though, the right candidate is key. And, again, this is a key strategic position so expect to be involved at all levels of the company!

  • Long and the short is that we want a rockstar to lead all of our development, projects, services and forward-facing projects. While we love to hire “up”, in this case we want someone who’s going to rock out with his or her, erm, talents. This is ideally a Toronto-based position (we can move people), as the individual will be a core part of the senior and strategic team. Love of and knowledge of front-end technologies, principles, practices and standards is key. Ditto for dev principles, practices, standards, etc. Basically we want someone who bridges the gap between hardcore development and fantastic user experience design.

  • We are looking to hire a senior finance executive to oversee all areas of b5media’s corporate governance, books and reporting. The ideal individual is more than just a back-office bookkeeper. We are seeking someone who is happy to operate strategically, to contribute significantly to senior management discussions and who isn’t afraid to “get their hands dirty”. Experience in a startup, a tech company and/or a media company is ideal. This is a Toronto-based position (we can move you from other parts of Canada). This is an immediate opening.

  • Have an idea for a blog? Want to blog for b5media?

If you've got a great idea for a blog or you have a blog you'd like to bring into the b5 family, let us know by filling out the application form below. Before filling out the form, here are a few guidelines:

    1. We're looking for people who have a passion for blogging and a particular topic. b5 bloggers write at least six to eight posts a week, and spend a lot of time checking out other blogs, reading news stories, and responding to comments.
    2. Do your homework before proposing an idea. Check out our blogroll at b5media.com to see if your idea is not already part of our network.
    3. While we're excited about growing the network, not every idea can be accepted. Sometimes, it takes time for a writing or blog opportunity to materialize so don't get discouraged.
    4. For new writers, opportunities can arise on our existing blogs. b5 usually offers these positions internally but we do advertise from time to time. You can find the most recent b5 vacancies open to everyone at the Problogger Jobs Board.
  • We are looking for an experienced PM that understands development and technical projects. Ideally someone who’s been a developer in the past, as he/she will be working directly with our dev team - and the less “translation” required, the better! This role is to lead the project management both of internal projects and external projects and products, partnership integrations, etc. Strong knowledge of web-based technologies is required. A minimum of 2 years development or technical experience and 2 years of project or product management is required. The position is in Toronto (we can move you here from Canada or the US). This is an immediate opening.

  • While this isn’t quite as sexy of a position (to me… I’m guessing the ideal candidate will think it’s at least as sexy as Moulin Rouge), it’s incredibly core to the company’s growth. We’ve seen 2 kinds of candidates: pure backend CA-type folk and high-level strategic folk. Ideally we’d want the best of both worlds: someone with the financial background to give everyone comfort both around finances and around processes (as we grow into a much larger company) and someone who wants to contribute at the strategic level.
